So far, as a fan, I can say that the proof-of-concept sketch ideas that the artists even in this small test group are doing have been incredible to listen to. The album will also be a good way to show other artists what the soundfont is capable of. The aim is not to write chiptune songs using the samples, but to write loops which could very well be from an extended version of the EB (SNES) OST. Currently there are myself and two other artists testing and experimenting with the first draft of the soundfont, scratching out ideas for the compilation, which I have defined as the new but faithful application of EarthBound sounds. So, I’ve stepped up to the project, as an artist and fan. I soon realized lots of other EB fans are looking as well. Naturally, I was looking for an EarthBound soundfont and was really hoping for some artists doing new things with the sounds (especially since that’s what the OST did, with things like horn samples of Beatles songs warped into the foreboding Cave That Time Forgot). I’ve composed video-game-like music as a hobby all my life, recently using the actual sample instruments from SNES games.
